Dear reader, how do you usually spend your free time? You might be busy spending time with friends and completing class assignments. But amid such a hectic life, don’t you feel like trying something extraordinary and new? In such a case, joining TIU’s student staff is your best option. Besides that, TIU also offers the Student Leadership Internship (SLI) program, which the International Exchange Office runs, and a variety of work as professors’ assistants. This time we would like to present 3 TIU student staff, who we interviewed about their work experience.

Open Campus Stuff

Have you ever participated in Open Campus during your High School years? Our school is not the only one that manages the event; student staff plays an essential part in the organization of Open Campus.

  • How did you get started as an open-campus staff member?

I started during my first year; it was something my senior recommended. I wanted to have different experiences since I just entered university.

Job Description:

It is to provide explanations and campus tours to students and parents interested in Tokyo International University to familiarize them with the university. We also offer support for those in need and do similar tasks.

Rewarding:

While preparing for Open Campus, I encountered diverse situations when I needed to comprehend quickly and communicate with others. I think these skills will be helpful in the future.

A word to students:

I certainly recommend students join the Open Campus because you will be able to interact with fellow students from various faculties and years – and other staff members and simply enjoy the overall experience.

PC room stuff

Have you ever had a problem with equipment in the classroom at the start of a class, and the professor had to call a student to come and solve the problem? Or, have you ever used a computer class on campus where fellow students assist you with check-in procedures at the reception desk? They are called computer room staff, and their job is to provide computer-related support for the school.

Why did you start working in the computer room?

When I was looking for a part-time job after entering university, I learned about on-campus part-time jobs and became interested in them. Also, I have always enjoyed tinkering with computers and machines, and I wanted to put that knowledge to good use.

Job Description:

My primary duties include reception and answering questions in the computer room on the 5th floor of Building No. 1, solving and adjusting equipment problems during classes, and locking classrooms in Building No. 1.

Rewarding:

I find it rewarding to be thanked by professors, staff, and students when equipment problems, which tend to occur at the start of classes, are fixed without incident. I also find it rewarding to learn things about computers that I myself do not yet know.

A word to students:

If you have any questions about computers, please feel free to ask me!

SF (Student Facility)

J-Track students probably took a “University Design Exercise” during their first year. Student facility members support the teacher in that class and work to convey the university’s attractiveness to new students.

How did you get started in SF?

As a freshman, a senior SF student kindly taught me about the “University Design Exercise” class. After that, I started thinking I wanted to try the same thing.

Job Description:

My job is to assist the professor during the “University Design Practice” class and teach new students about what helpful resources our university has to offer.

Rewarding:

As an SF, we have to come up with one assignment for each class, which gives me a feeling of accomplishment. Another attractive point is that this course allows me to meet and make new friends with students.

A word to students:

Compared to student life before, there are more things you can enjoy during your university life, so please enjoy its freedom.

Thanks to the students who shared their experiences! Besides the Student Staff, TIU has other on-campus jobs to offer. The following article will discuss SLI, run by the International Exchange Office. Please keep an eye on it!
