As the new semester began, we students of TIU also started a new university life in the newly constructed campus at Ikebukuro. Since everything is different from what we had in our previous campus at Kawagoe, I assume that there are still a lot of things and locations that we need to get familiar with. The Ikebukuro Campus was built with the intention of providing students with modern facilities and a diverse learning environment so they may fulfill the school’s purpose of “nurturing truly international-minded leaders who will contribute to global society through vision, courage, and intelligence.” As you have already observed, the new campus consists of two buildings: the Garden Wing, that includes the school’s common areas, and the International Tower, which has 22 floors. The new campus is designed to be more accessible for students because moving from one location to another will be easier in one building.

The International Tower

The International Tower, the campus’s main building, has 22 floors, nonetheless the majority of the classrooms are found between the 3rd and 14th floors, and the faculty offices are located between the 16th and 19 floors. However, you should be cautious as certain floors beyond the 15th floor are inaccessible to students.

First Floor

he convenience store and the school cafeteria are located on the first floor, so heading there would be an excellent choice if you’re thinking about getting something to eat! Just keep in mind that the first-floor facilities are available to the general public, so don’t forget your school ID since you’ll need it to enter and leave the facility.

7/11

Like every other 7/11 in the country, you can get anything here as well, including delicious fresh food, coffee, ATMs, and even a printing and copying machine which is perfect for you when you need something because it allows you to get what you need without even leaving campus

Cafeteria 1

Cafeteria 1 is located on the west side of the campus. The school cafeteria offers several options for meals and a wide variety of beverages to suit your preferences.

Good Health Cafeteria

Eating at Good Health might be the best for you if you’re a health-conscious person. In contrast to cafeteria 1, the Good Health Cafeteria serves light meals like salad and other healthy options.

Second Floor

Student Support Center:

The International Exchange Center is a place where you can find and ask for your official school documents and transcripts.

Cafeteria 2 and Starbucks(Coffee Area):

Yes, you read it right! The school also provided a mini Starbucks shop where you could buy your own Starbucks drink. However, it is a self-service shop with limited choices of beverages, and it only accepts electronic payments (such as suica etc.) or cards for payment.

Global Commons

The Global Commons is a space dedicated for hosting international and multilingual events or workshops held mostly by the SLI.

Third Floor

The third floor is a space offered for students who want to study and learn while interacting with other students, since here you can find the Learning Commons.

he Learning Commons is a multilingual area where services like English Lounge and Academic Advising (PAW) will be held, as well as JLI’s Japanese sessions like Conversational Partners (CP) and Terakoya.

Fourth~Seventh Floors:

Classes are typically held on these floors, which have at least 10 classrooms, five on each side. Additionally, each level has a little study area at the end of the hallway, which is helpful for students who need a place to study.

Eighth Floor

he 8th floor is the spot for you if you need a brief break or a place to breathe because it features a built-in lounge for students who want to chill and unwind after a few hours of classes.

Quiet Room: The quiet room is open for students who wants to concentrate since it is a calm place.

TIU Outside Terrace: Located on the 8th floor is the campus terrace, which offers views of the city and the campus park. It is a great place to visit when you need some downtime from studying.

Student Lounge:  The student lounge provides a large area for students to socialize while unwinding. The fact that it includes a Matsuya vending machine, two microwaves for reheating your bentos, and a hot water dispenser for your cup ramen makes it a convenient place for you to dine when you don’t feel like eating in the cafeteria.

Ninth Floor – PC Room

The newly designed computer lab offers PCs dedicated to students who need to use computers to do school-related work. The computer lab also offers printing and scanning services, which are perfect for students who need to print documents and research-related stuff.

Tenth~Eleventh Floors – Library

The newly built and improved library is a quiet space for students who need to focus on their studies. The library offers a large variety of books that are helpful, especially for those students who do their thesis or just read to have fun. The books are sorted based on their genre, which makes it easier for students to find them.

the 10th floor, you can mainly find English-related textbooks and a group study area for students who want to have a group discussion with their fellow classmates or friends. Just take note that a reservation is required, so don’t forget to book at the front counter at the main entrance of the library. On the other hand, the 11th floor is dedicated mostly to Japanese textbooks, which are helpful for J-track students and students who wish to learn and improve their Japanese.

Twelve~Fourteenth Floors

Most students who are studying Japanese hold their class on these floors, but other than that, it is also a place for you to relax and study since every floor has a study area for students while enjoying the view of the city from the top

Garden Wing

The Garden Wing is where you can find the school’s common facilities.

Atrium:

The atrium is the heart of the campus which connects the international tower and garden wing.

Rooftop Running Course and Training Gym:

The rooftop running course is a facility that is mainly used for sports club activities. The building also features a training gym that is exclusive to TIU students who want to keep up with their healthy lifestyle in between classes.

TIU Hall:

The TIU Hall is mainly a place used for events, workshops and seminars held by the school.

Students may now access facilities more easily inside the building thanks to the new Ikebukuro campus. Since every facility has a dedicated floor, it is also simpler to navigate the campus without becoming lost. Additionally, considering everything is located within a single structure, communication with other students in both Japanese and English is considerably easier because everyone can be seen around the campus.

Hopefully this article gave you a general overview of available new facilities here at Ikebukuro, be sure to stay tuned for upcoming articles for more in-depth information for Ikebukuro facilities!
